So Many Things

There are so many things I want to tell you about Finn!

He is a wonder and amazes me every single day.

Last week he would pick *nothing* up from his tray. Then it was bread, raisins. Yesterday strips of pork chop. Today broccoli!! Although it was cold so not quite as interesting as the bread *with* peanut butter on it. Tonight, potatoes and salmon. Though he still won't touch a banana himself.

He has a fascinating sense of humor. If he wants to be funny he curls his lip up better than Elvis and does this funny little panting thing. If you surprise him he bursts out in giggles. He has the strangest wry smile. I've never seen a baby smile wryly but Finn does and often.

Nothing excites him more than seeing papa walk across the lawn throwing balls for Whisper. Then he's torn, does he follow Whisper or flirt with papa .. hmmm, jury is still out on that one.

He is fascinated by the teeniest tiniest things .. a whisper of a feather floating above our bed, dust sparking in the sunlight.

He plays ball like a pinball machine, his legs flapping back and forth.

He still isn't rolling or crawling but the kid can move .. and fast. Well, I should take that back. He does roll but it so rare and random. He rolled for the first time from back to tummy on Monday, the 23rd of December. And again tonight when I was out of the room. That's it! I think he's holding out on us.

This week he figured out how to get one knee behind him so he could lean further. And a few weeks ago we quit giving him toys. We just put the entire toy basket next to him and he empties it by playing with one toy at a time and then plays with the empty basket.

On his tummy he gets everywhere combat crawling with his arms. I've seen him get up on two knees once. Last week. He mostly just gets mad and yells and arches his back, then momma reminds him again how easy it is to roll over ... by pulling one leg across the other and then Flip. He's happy again.

He misses nothing. If I move or rearrange something in the house he will notice and then spend several minutes looking for the moved item or figuring out what is different. That said, last night we put him in a new bed and he snuggled down like he'd slept there every night of his life. He also knows where every mirror is in the house and will prod you to take him to see himself after most diaper changes but definitely after you've dressed him or put his pajamas on.

He loves books and will examine every single detail on the page. His favorite right now is a very clearly illustrated book about the zoo. His favorite page, the one with the spiders.

I am not sure why this was sitting here as a draft so long except maybe I was going to add pictures. Some day I'll come back and do that. In the meantime, almost a year is passed and it will be time to write this again.
